Don't wash your dirty laundry in public

Don't wash your dirty laundry in public.
A friend said that to me. What does it mean?
He said that after sort of accusing me for not staying true to my words. It happened because there is a good looking guy in Sheares whom we happen to see when we go over for supper. Then naturally, being the outspoken person that i am, i'll go
"Oh .... he's hot"
Maybe i've done that too many times in front of him and i've said that about many guys, saying he's good looking, he's hot and all those stuff.
Just a few minutes ago, he told me " In the beginning of the semester, you told me that u're a different type of girl, that u're more matured, that u're past being the 'Oh-He's-So-Hot' phase."
Well, what he says isn't entirely false, in fact, i do remember saying that. And now it appears as though i've turned against what i've said initially. It isn't as if i didn't mean what i said when i said it at the beginning of the sem, its just that i really felt that way at the time. I felt much older than the singaporean girls, really and i was amused each time they went "Oh that guy is so suai (good looking)". I really thought i was past that stage.
But, i only make such remarks for fun. True, i think he's hot but that's it. He's hot. FULL STOP. its just some kind of an entertainment i suppose, an eye candy.
Is that irritating?
Is that wrong?
I have turned on what i've said, but i'm not what u think i am! i really did mean what i said. Sigh... i don't know how to explain la..... what does don't wash your dirty laundry in public mean?
How does it relate to this?
