2 fun-filled days in Sg
I'm blogging from home....my room twice the size of the one in KR, fully air-conditioned with attached bathroom. I miss home.....i love home.. i love mummy and daddy.
Before coming home, i told my mum about how much i missed the food, particularly the indian and muslim food. But, on Friday, an Indian friend of mine invited a few of us from hall to her house for Deepavali. Her mum's authentic Indian food is fabulous. It is super delicious!! I had 2 capatis, rice and erm... some other indian veg which i don't know the name. After that, we decided that the night was still young, so we went to Wala Wala in Holland Village (Sg scaled down version of Bangsar) which is well known for good live music. Had some beer while enjoying the music. The guitarist is HOT la! I'm attracted to musicians.......have no idea why..
Their last session ended at about 1.30am, but we still hadn't have enough fun. Wanted to buy some liquor from Cold Storage nearby but Sg has this weird liquor lockdown from 1-6am. Luckily, a friend of mine had "Southern Comfort"- some liquor with 40% alcohol which tasted like cranberry vodka to me- which was a lucky draw prize she won at Hall Bash. We had a bit of that and Johnnie courtesy of a senior. Of course we didn't just have alcohol. There was bread, crisps and some other thing. Finally turned in at 4am feeling a lil drunk.
As expected, missed the entire morning and woke up at 2pm or so. Can't remember what i did .... maybe studied/laundry/lunch or something. Met up with Joel(Kuching-ian), Kah Yat(KL-ite), Aya(Japanese) and Yiren(Sgporean) for dinner at Geylang. Geylang roxx mann... they had this Malay Village bazaar thing. Its something like a huggeee pasar malam + buka puasa.
We had keropok lekor, chicken in seaweed, popsicles, coconut, satay, ramly burger, apam balik, chicken wings, otak-otak and air batu malaysia. Isn't that amazing???
That place was packed with Malays. Even after eating all of that, it still wasn't enough. Yiren (Sgporean) drove us around Geylang to look for the famous tauhueh. He wasn't sure where it was, so we turned into a few lorongs namely lorong 16(ah mois), lorong 14(transvestites) and lorong 12(phillipinos?). LOL... After a few wrong turnings and interesting sights, we finally found our tauhueh. Its GOOD!! Since Yiren had church the next day, he left at 12am.
The rest of us headed for Orchard, each getting a bottle of beer from 7 11 and sitting by the pavement just talking under the stars. Spent about 2 hours talking before we cabbed back. Oh.. we saw a few weird goths hanging around in Orchard. They look pretty scary alright. Didn't sleep till 5 as i was packing and getting ready to come home! Ironic how i've just eaten all the food i missed in M'sia in Sg 2 days prior to coming home. I had fun....
Religion
Does religion bring people together or does it segregate?
In KR and esp E block, CG (Cell Group) is a huge thing. Its like a fellowship of Christians basically. So what we do is every week on Tuesdays, we have a CG meeting in the block lounge. For the Christians, it is great news to be able to be with your fellow bros and sis (or so they say).
Question is, since KR calls herself the family block, shouldn't we be non-exclusive? That is, shouldn't we have activities together regardless of nationality, ethnicity, race, etc.? By having CGs (although it is not an official hall activity but everyone knows about it), isn't this being selective and excluding others? The worse part is that CGs are held in common areas such as the respective block lounges where the other 90% of the residents(non Christians) have equal rights to utilise it as and when they want. Its called the BLOCK lounge. Personally, I don't blame the non Christians for lamenting on the fact that the block lounge is occupied when it is used for CGs. Its just not right to hold such things in a common area shared by all. It only shows that the CGs hold some political status to be able to do that and not to be told off, what more reprimanded by anyone. It doesn't help that the current president is a strong CG leader as well. During the presidential rally, the residents were very very concerned if his leadership will be based on secularism or otherwise. They have every right to be concerned.
Besides that, instead of being humble disciple of Jesus Christ, do Christians in CG consider themselves the elite? What kind of a message are we sending out to those who do not know Christ yet? Is it personal faith and the need to share the common mission of a Christian or the fact that it is 'in' to be in a CG which drives ppl to these weekly meetings? To what extent are we actually serving God? I've read somewhere in the Bible where it says, when u pray, don't do it deliberately to announce it to the whole world that u're worshiping God, but do it in your own quiet time and space. In my opinion, religion is personal and there is no need to create a big commotion. There are other ways to spread the Good News instead of blarring it via the loud speakers. If God wants to touch them, He has His ways.
Just because u're in CG doesn't make u any more holier, doesn't bring u any closer to heaven. It is who u are and how u carry yourself in the eyes of God which determines it. The bible says, pay Caesar what belongs to Caesar and pay God what belongs to God.
Now, if only i can find the courage to step out of this.......

Pics - Star 2 Burst (Aug 05)

Star 2 Burst is a hall event where us freshies form the 6 temporary culture groups. I was shortlisted for Acapellets (don't ask me why its called acapellets). Its basically an acapella group. So yeah, we sing sans music. 7 individual voices blend into one. We sang Aint no mountain high enough and Celebration. Okay performance, sign of good things to come.
